The Reservation Process

After 12 years in business, you would think we would have come up with a simple way of doing this. But I'm afraid it will always be a bit complicated due to the difficulty of banking in Costa Rica. Below I will out line the process and also include our reservation and cancellation policy as well as the payment policies. One of the reasons this is so complicated is that our banks on the Osa will hold the funds from foreign checks for 45 days.

Once you have made contact with us and expressed interest in making reservations, we pencil in the dates in our book and will hold those dates while we are communicating, as long as we are more or less in continuous contact. Once your dates are firm, we will ask for a deposit.

If you would like us to make your air reservations we will ask for either full payment by wire transfer or a signed credit card voucher for payment of the air reservations. We do not want the airfare sent to our stateside account .  We do not charge a credit card processing fee for Nature Air reservations.  We do charge for Sansa reservations

PAYMENT POLICY FOR THE 2011 SEASON
Final Payments
Cash payments in US Dollars or Colones

Travelers Checks: OK but please check with us prior to traveling.  The banks can change thier policies with little or no warning. We charge 2% for processing these...more or less what the bank charges us.

Credit Cards:  MasterCard or Visa Only.  My apologies but we must charge 4% for handling credit card transactions.

Reservation and Deposit Policy

We request a deposit approximately equal to the rate for the first nights stay or 30%, which ever is higher. (we vary the amount slightly so that we can tell who has deposited in our account). We will send you the amount of deposit via email.

The deposit is 100% refundable with notice of cancellation up until the last month. For cancellations received less than 30 days prior to your reservation we will refund 75% of your deposit if we fill your space.
Please note that we have a different policy for holiday season and large group reservations

WE offer four methods for making a deposit, all are in US Dollars only.

Credit Card Voucher:
We will send out a credit card form which may be filled out, scanned and emailed back to us. (If you can not scan it and want to fax the form , we will send a fax number of an office that helps us handle communications). This will not be processed and the total will be due upon arrival in cash, travelers checks or a credit card.

Wire Transfer:
A wire transfer may be made to our Costa Rican account. Please send for details. And please check with your bank for the fees. They vary from $15-$60 depending on the country and bank. Our bank charges $10 to receive them which we will pass on to you. Please ask for details.

Check sent to US address in Miami:
Must be done more than 75 days in advance. This is a forwarding service to Costa Rica and the check will take up to a month to get to us and another ~30 days to clear at our bank.  This is a good way to pay the final balance if you want to avoid carrying cash, wire transfer fees or the credit card processing fees.
This address may be used for lodge deposit, deposits for other lodges, transfers, airfare and final payment if desired.

Check to our Maryland Bank:
A check may be sent to our personal account in the States. We will send the directions by email.. This is for deposits only. This deposit may be paid by check or money order in US dollars. Please do not include full payment, airfare nor coorespondence, when sending a check to this account.

Important Note: We have the deposit sent to our stateside account for our guests convenience. Many folks ask if they can send the balance to our state side account. Unfortunately this causes many problems for us as a Costa Rican Corporation and it is difficult to get the funds down here in a timely manner. If you do not feel comfortable bringing cash or travelers checks or would prefer to not use a credit card, you can wire the balance of the money in our Costa Rican account. If you would like to do that just let me know and I will send the details.

The automatic tellers usually accept foreign cards in Puerto Jimenez. To do a transaction inside the bank may be fast OR take up to an hour. Many places will not accept credit cards or will charge for accepting credit cards. If you have time in San Jose, the smaller commercial banks are the fastest to use for money exchange and credit card processing.
If you have any questions feel free to write us
Thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the Rio Tigre
