Excursions

Rio Tigre is a great birding destination

"Our favorite occupation is introducing folks to the diversity and beauty of the rain forest."
We offer guided tours customized to your interests and time. A half-day walk, with an experienced guide and naturalist, is highly recommended to enrich your rain forest experience."

The wilderness of the Osa Peninsula is waiting for you.
Grab your cameras and binoculars and lets go!

We want to show you one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse places on earth.

There are a wealth of trails to choose from covering a wide variety of terrain and habitats. Excursions can be made locally in the Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce (the equivalent to the US National Forests), Parque Nacional Corcovado or our private reserve as well as to other points of interest on The Osa Peninsula. We make a point of using the less
traveled trails so you may experience the rainforest in the most natural and wild state.

In addition to hiking, birding and nature walks other activities include, recreational gold panning, swimming in the river, and mangrove kayaking. We can also arrange trips to a botanical garden, tree climbing, waterfall repelling, canopy tours, dolphin watching and flights to other areas on the Peninsula de Osa.

Anyone can take advantage of our guiding services whether they are a guest of the lodge or staying at another facility on the Osa.

The Rainforest Educational Packages

Over the years we have found that our guests really enjoy these well rounded packages. These packages include accommodations in our riverside eco-lodge, meals, snacks, fresh fruit juices, dinner wine, use of binoculars, spotting scope and reference library and 4 walks or hikes in the local area, covering most of the habitats and natural history subjects such as frogs, medicinal plants, birding, general flora and fauna and rainforest ecology. These  usually include an a 5 hr primary rainforest hike, a morning bird walk, an afternoon nature or medicinal plant walk, and a night/frog walk.

POPULAR TRIPS

a jungle view The Río Pizote is a small river surrounded by mountains teeming with wildlife and predominately primary forest with some sections of secondary forest. This hike is a great introduction to the diversity of habitats existing on the penisula and can be a half-day or full day trip. It's a good choice for one person or an entire family.

Another popular trip is the one way  hike to Carate passing the small, mountain gold mining town of Piedras Blancas. This is a beautiful 7 to 8 hour hike through mostly primary forest in and on the edges of Corcovado Park This hike is only for very physically fit individuals. Return taxi to Puerto Jimenéz is variable. Minimum of two people is required. There is now a collective taxi which lowers the cost of the return transport substantially. Please ask if you are interested.

The morning bird walk, the night frog walk and Abraham's medicinal plant tour are extremely popular options. These run between 1-3 hours.

Rio Tigre

Most trips start in Dos Brazos at our lodge, which is only 25 minutes from Puerto Jimenéz. It's the fastest way to geAbraham climbing inside a "Strangler Fig"t to Corcovado Park and the surrounding Reserva Forestal Golfo Dulce. And it's cooler than the traditional access involving a one day hike along the beach! We prefer to start early in the morning no later than 6:30 or 7:00. We can provide lodging the night before if you would like. The longer excursions are priced at $40-$60 per person for full day (more than 4 hours) and $35 for half day. Prices are discounted for more than 4 people. After your hike you may relax at the lodge and use our extensive reference library, our private, marked trails and our 50-ft. waterfall.
